Every new capability needs a place to live. As Qonic’s feature set keeps growing, our existing toolbar was reaching its limits. So we rebuilt it to be ready for what comes next.
The new Qonic toolbar groups tools around what people are trying to achieve, not around when we happened to ship each feature. The result is a clearer, faster and more intuitive way to navigate, create and edit building models.
A reorganized central toolbar
The central toolbar has been reorganized into focused groups that reflect the way people work in Qonic.
Selection & Navigation
Selection and navigation are now two distinct modes, separating two actions that had become blurred over time.
Selection mode has a new hover effect, letting you see exactly what you are about to select before committing to it. This makes picking individual objects and model elements more predictable.
Navigate mode is built for a different job: flying or walking through your model, exploring your building and looking around the space.
Pan is now a dedicated mode too. Instead of hiding behind a shortcut key, it is visible and immediately accessible from the toolbar.
Measure and Quality Checks
Measure sits close by, together with quicker access to quality checks such as IDS validation and clash detection.
This makes it easier to move from inspecting a building model to verifying its quality without searching through unrelated menus.
Creation Tools
Creation tools have moved front and center. They are divided into three focused groups:
- 2D Primitives
- 3D Primitives
- 3D Creation, including Extrude, Sweep and Loft
Whether you are drawing basic shapes or creating more complex 3D geometry, the right starting point is now easier to find.
Edit Tools
Editing tools are grouped according to what they do to your geometry:
- Transform
- Mirror & Align
- Boolean tools
- Push/Pull
This structure makes the toolbar easier to understand and leaves room for new modeling capabilities as Qonic continues to grow.
Layers
Layers now have a section of their own instead of being buried inside a submenu.
They are easier to discover and faster to access, especially when working with more complex models.
Adjust & Assembly
Adjust & Assembly rounds out the new toolbar. It brings together tools for connecting or stretching geometry, alongside tools for working with assemblies.
Every tool has its own icon
Every tool in the Qonic toolbar now has its own icon.
We refreshed existing icons and created new ones for tools that previously had none. This gives each action a distinct visual identity and makes the toolbar much easier to scan.
A toolbar you can understand at a glance is one you eventually stop thinking about, which is exactly what a good tool should allow you to do.
A toolbar that remembers
Each tool group now remembers the last tool you used within it.
If you are repeating the same action, the tool is sitting right where you left it, just one click away. It is a small detail that makes a noticeable difference during longer modeling sessions.
A meaningful UX improvement
We believe the redesigned toolbar is a real user-experience win.
Its clearer organization makes tools easier to discover. The new icons help you recognize them more quickly. And because every group remembers your last-used tool, repeated workflows require fewer clicks.
Give it a little time and the new structure quickly becomes the fastest way to find what you need.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I quickly find a tool in Qonic?
If you are not sure where a tool is located, use the Command Center. Click Tool or press /, start typing the tool’s name and select it from the results. This lets you launch any available tool without navigating through the toolbar.
Why is a tool greyed out or missing?
The tools available in Qonic depend on your access rights and the state of the model. A tool may be unavailable if you only have viewing rights, are viewing an older model version or have opened the model in read-only mode. When working with multiple models, make sure the correct editable model is active.
Can I use the new toolbar in both the browser and the Qonic desktop app?
Yes. Qonic’s modeling environment can be opened in a supported web browser or in the desktop application, with the same core functionality. For larger or more complex models, Qonic recommends the desktop app because it can use more of your computer’s resources.
What is IDS validation in Qonic?
IDS validation checks whether the information in your BIM model meets predefined Information Delivery Specifications. Upload an .ids file and Qonic will report failed requirements, which you can visualize or convert into issues for follow-up.
What is clash detection in Qonic?
Clash detection checks BIM geometry for conflicts between objects. You can compare two sets of elements or check one set against itself. Qonic can also detect soft clashes, where objects are closer together than an allowed clearance distance.
